How fibromyalgia affects the brain and central nervous system
Fibromyalgia is a neurological disease that affects the soft
tissues of the locomotor system, such as muscles, tendons and ligaments. Most
people with fibromyalgia experience intense muscle soreness and discomfort,
also accompanied by a pronounced level of fatigue throughout the body.
At the beginning, muscle pain and fatigue usually occur in the
upper parts of the body (necks, cervical region, back and shoulders), extending
to other regions of the body (middle back, arms, spine, lumbar and Thighs).
As we see, in this disease is very common pain, but not only
that, it also affects different parts of our daily life, especially the parts
where the nervous system works, and we will talk about this in this article.
Headache
Patients with fibromyalgia share many characteristics with
chronic headache patients. Similar to migraine, fibromyalgia occurs more
often in women of childbearing age, women affected by this disease are 7 times
greater than men.
The symptoms of headache are generally classified as severe,
occurring at least twice a week.
Difficulty sleeping
The chances of you having a good night's suffering from
fibromyalgia is really complicated. In fact, if someone has sleep
problems, this is one of the indicators adopted to diagnose fibromyalgia.
With this condition, the person sleeps all night, but wakes up
with the feeling that he hardly rested. This happens because the activity
of the brain of the person is similar to that of a person who is not sleeping.
Chronic Fatigue
The number of fibromyalgia sufferers with chronic fatigue is
increasing.Chronic fatigue is severe body burnout that could last for at
least six months. This condition usually has these symptoms.
·
Problems of memory or concentration.
·
Muscle pain.
·
Lack of sleep.
·
General discomfort.
·
Headache.
·
Sore throat.
This condition is usually caused by a dysfunction of the immune
system or the hypothalamus.
Fibroniebla
This causes the inability to remember people's names and
birthdays, or to remember the details of school projects or work.Cognitive difficulties may include confusion, memory lapses,
inability to concentrate.
Sometimes the fibronie is confused with attention deficit
syndrome and dyslexia.
Making techniques with tools like calendars, lists, journals,
voice recorders can be very helpful for those who suffer from this symptom. Modern technologies also offer a number of organizational tools
such as computers.
A tip for those who suffer from fibronie:
"Set aside some time each day to organize and prepare your
agenda for the day ... in the early morning or before bed is usually better ...
find out what works best for you. It may take a little trial and error to
find the way, but when you have found it you will have a key to controlling the
fibronie and your life. "
Concentration and distraction
Fibromyalgia can cause you problems concentrating on the tasks
you are performing and make you susceptible to distraction.
vocabulary
This disease can also cause problems in speech, forgetting
words, saying poorly structured or unintelligible sentences. It is also usual to confuse words, because we think of saying
something, and we say it using related words but not what we really meant.
Memory loss
You can reach a point where you realize that you are unable to
easily remember things or situations. For example remembering where the car keys are, or remembering
the dates and times of important appointments, this can be quite difficult as
time progresses.
Mathematics
Maybe already mathematics for some is a problem. But those
with fibromyalgia may have very specific problems with simple equations and
sequences that is about remembering numbers.
This makes day to day a little complicated.
Directions
We have already seen about fibronie and memory loss, so this
also affects remembering directions, when you want to remember an address for
example when going to a specific store or any other place you will not remember
where it is.
Depression and anxiety
Apart from being one of the symptoms, I also believe that
depression and anxiety are the main factors that contribute to this disease. Anxiety
also causes an obstacle in recovery of health and maintenance of the body.
Natural Treatments for Fibromyalgia
Medications for Fibromyalgia Pain
Analgesics like aspirin, ibuprofen and cortisone as a treatment
for fibromyalgia sufferers are often of very little help.
Analgesics, such as codeine, morphine, or oxycodone may provide
some significant pain relief, however, these are opioids that have side effects
for fibromyalgia patients who are particularly sensitive to such, such as
nausea, constipation, itching, and confusion mental.
For this reason most patients do not choose to take such
narcotics for the long term.
Recent research shows that addiction rarely develops when opioid
medications are taken for chronic pain; however, dependence occurs in most
patients.
Alternative treatment for fibromyalgia sufferers may include
weak opioids like Ultram or Ultracet, which have a minimal potential for
addiction.
Treatment for sleep disorders
Sleep disorders that often occur as a result of fibromyalgia,
brings underlying effects including sleep apnea, restless legs syndrome, or
grinding of teeth.
These potential contributors should be discarded before
beginning treatment for fibromyalgia sufferers.
If an underlying cause is not found, low doses of tricyclic
antidepressants or sleeping pills such as zolpidem are often helpful.
These drugs are not addictive when used in low doses, and
patients taking these medications rarely experience side effects.
Treatment for fibromyalgia patients should not include the
regular use of strong
sleeping pills like Restoril or Valium because they
decrease the quality of sleep.
Depression and anxiety
Treatment of these disorders may include cognitive behavioral or
other psychiatric / psychological therapies, often at the same time as
anti-anxiety drugs and antidepressants.
Treating emotional problems will not cure fibromyalgia, but it
will decrease your burden.
Exercise as treatment
It can be difficult to incorporate exercise as a treatment for
fibromyalgia sufferers, since they are already tired and in pain.
However, growing evidence shows that regular exercise is crucial
in the fight against fibromyalgia, and patients who adopt an exercise plan have
better progress.
A low-impact routine such as walking, stationary cycling,
aerobic in water, etc. And avoiding high impact activities like running,
contact sports, will be beneficial.
Of course it is advisable to consult a physician before
beginning an exercise routine as part of the treatment for fibromyalgia
sufferers.
To stay fit, you only need 20 minutes of physical activity three
times a week at 70% of your maximum heart rate.
